Though advent of facsimile machines and faxes dates back to mid nineteenth century but it was in late 1980s that use of faxes became common in business sector owing to its practicality regarding cost. Ever since the wide spread use of faxes has initiated in offices, the dominated spur of e-mails and other modern communication modes have failed to cease the use of faxes practically. Despite of having all the modern gadgets available at hand, the faxes have not vanished off the spectrum completely for certain reasons – privacy and security of which rank above.

Having accepted the fact that years old fax system still finds its place in the contemporary world loaded with ultra modern communication gadgets, the question that comes to mind is do fax is carried out via same old-fashioned big sized fax machines? Certainly not! With advancements in every other mode, fax technology has also undergone modifications. It enables the service of faxmail. Faxmail is now the supplement of traditional fax system which is equivalent to incorporating a fax image into an e-mail.

Faxmail has a number of advantages over traditional fax machines.

Unlike old fax machine technology in which the recipient had to wait by the fax machine checking on every other fax in order to grab the required one, modern faxmail technology sets the users free of this hassle. The faxmail gets specifically delivered to the recipient’s email address the moment it is sent.

Modern hosted PBX service has rooted out all the chances of getting a fax lost which traditionally was a big problem with overburdened fax machines as there was no means to separate one fax from other. However, hosted PBX service delivers faxmail one at a time with no chances of overlapping and loses of any incoming information.

The privacy of fax as promised by hosted PBX was never to be fond with the conventional fax machines system in which all the received faxes were to lay openly in the machine tray with a number of recipients exploring and finding their required fax. In faxmail technology, the faxmail is directed to the recipient’s email client and no irrelevant person is supposed to receive the info other than the targeted one.

With faxmail being sent and received as an email, it is handled with the same convenience as that of an email. The fax can now be received, saved and forwarded to individual or group lists with the ease of an email owing to hosted PBX faxmail service.

My experience with the hosted voip fax has not been very good. I purchased a customized solution which provided voip fax facility. Voice quality was quite satisfactory but the quality of fax was not acceptable. In fact I got a very poor fax quality whith voip fax.

well as far as fax with voip is concerned, it works really well within the papers but when it comes to practical implementation, the results are really poor. I would say in office, you can never depend on the results of voip fax. This is why most of main voip providers are not offering any fax service.

The fact is majority of the voip service providers are not offering any fax service just because this technology itself is in very preliminary stages. Some voip providers introduced voip fax just to prove themselves smarter than others but that experiment failed in the beginning.

Until now, majority of the VoIP service providers recommends fax to be used on ordinary land lines. They don’t offer any VoIP fax service. However, everyone believes that quality of VoIP will improve in future. If we keep in mind the previous rapid development of VoIP service, this definitely is a reality.
